Our free Kindergarten Science & Engineering Playlist of more than 30 hours is designed as the perfect follow-up to our Preschool playlist.
A Curriculum That Maintains Forward Momentum
Much like our earlier preschool science and engineering curriculum, our kindergarten curriculum takes the form of an engaging YouTube playlist that children will want to watch and rewatch. Our primary goal for this grade level is to help children maintain forward momentum in their studies. While the kindergarten playlist remains accessible to young learners, it will simultaneously challenge them to grow and develop in meaningful ways.
Some of the playlist’s highlights include:
- Science Max, an award-winning television show that teaches important science and engineering concepts through large-scale building projects. It is much more scientifically accurate than most shows for children, and the host, Phil McCordic, seems to be motivated by a genuine commitment to science education. Your children will almost certainly try to replicate the science and engineering projects they see, for better or for worse. Fortunately, the Science Max website has complete instructions for doing some of the smaller-scale projects in the home.
- The Nirks, a musical channel that uses puppets to teach about astronomy. Aside from being very catchy, the songs have the distinction of introducing children to important concepts that are almost always neglected in K-12 astronomy curricula. Students will learn about dwarf planets, exoplanets, exotic varieties of stars, quasars, and much more.
- Brave Wilderness, a wildly popular show about animals that teaches through close encounters and engaging commentary. Children will see all manner of creatures in their natural habitats, while also learning about their diets, defense mechanisms, mannerisms, and other unique biological characteristics.
- Operation Ouch, a show that introduces young audiences to the day-to-day work needed to keep a children’s hospital running. Typical episodes consist of segments covering human anatomy, medical technology, hospital treatment, and the employees who make everything work. Although the program is light-hearted and child-friendly, it does show some medical procedures that might make some viewers a little queasy.
We Respect Your Right to Teach Your Beliefs
Our playlist does not seek to promote evolution, creationism, or any other belief regarding origins. We believe strongly in the rights of parents to choose how and when to address this subject for young children. Regardless of your personal convictions, you can use our curriculum as the core component of your child’s Science & Engineering studies, while being free to supplement it with more personalized coverage of the topic of origins.
Using this Curriculum
As the parent, all you need to do is play our Kindergarten Science & Engineering playlist for your child. We recommend playing between 30-60 minutes of the playlist per day, but you can adjust this to fit your schedule as needed. We also recommend that you replay the playlist (or at least the videos that were most interesting to your child) at least once.
If you want to incorporate some hands-on activities, we suggest that you follow the “Table Top Experiments” guides on the Science Max website. There are 27 projects in total, which is easily sufficient for kindergarten.
